I have been neglecting this space for a few days while recovering from my mad coding dash last week. I rolled out a restricted beta to a few of my customers, and initial reactions are very positive. Now I have a bunch of “tweaking” to do, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer, and I imagine I will soon be moving on to more interesting projects.
Now, a lot of different stuff has been going on in the world, and I thought I might bring some of it to your attention.
Watch Your Surfing!
If you are a Charter Communications ISP customer, you might want to think about either changing your carrier, writing your congressperson, or changing your surfing habits. News is that Charter will start monitoring the surfing habits of it’s customers and selling that information to add networks so “improve” your websurfing experience, and enhance “customer satisfaction”.
Basically the whole process involves the concept of deep packet inspection. The ISP (Carrier) will begin to examine the contents of the individual packets exchanged between you and whatever server you happen to be “visting”.
So what you might ask? Well, for starters, the ISP will know begin to know more about you than your own family members. All of your surfing will be inspected, and that information provided to “authorized third parties”. Do you get to decide if you want to participate, NO. Do you get a say in who has access, NO. Does the potential exist for this detailed profile of information to be abused by the company or the government, YES.
So, think carefully about encrypting your internet traffic, and allow me to introduce you to TOR - The Onion Router.
Our President Likes Bad Mouth His Own Country When Overseas
Recently, while speaking at the 60th anniversary celebration of the founding of Israel at the Knesset, our President decided that the best way to improve the perception that Israel and the world has of the Democratic Party was to call them the equivalent of Nazi Appeasers. Of course, there is a long standing tradition that while the President is overseas, he represents the whole government, so speaking ill of one part or another is considered bad form and not done.
But hey, this is “Go it alone” King George, and no one tells the king what to do. The President’s argument, such as it is, is that talking to foreign powers we disagree with politically is appeasement, and we all know what happened when people appeased the Nazis.
Except, well, the President has a problem, he would need to fire his own staff because they have long been calling for talking to some of these countries, including Iran. The President himself has spoken with the leader North Korea, has made deals with Libya, and supported dialog with countries like Sudan. Now, that is just a short list of countries we are politically (and I argue socially) opposed to, and our President has had dialog with them. Should we also now label him an appeaser?
If I believed in god, I would curse him for giving us this no talent ass clown as our leader, but since I can’t blame something I don’t think exists, I must instead blame my fellow citizens, who voted for him gladly.

One More Space Craft About to Land On Mars
Next week, a new Mars exploring spacecraft will land on our neighbor planet and begin doing some new and cool science. This time the spacecraft will attempt to land in the Polar regions of the planet, where water ice may be present. It is hoped that the experiments on the craft will be answer questions relating to the history of martian ice, and can the arctic regions support life (Martian or Human). Some interesting stuff indeed.
You can learn more at the mission site.
