Sorry about my lack of activity, I have been really busy with work. But I had to take a moment to discuss this little gem. Enjoy! [EDIT - Please put on your sense of humor, I don’t actually hate the South]
Ah, the south, home to warm weather, sunny skies, friendly *cough* people and…..
bat shit crazy nut cases. I mean ,seriously, lets rack up some of the “best” parts of the southern experience.
- Religous intolerance
- Racism/Bigotry
- Failing schools
- Creationism taught as science
- And so much more
And now comes this little tidbit. Here is a story about a substitute teacher loosing his job for “wizardry” in his class. That isn’t a typo, thats what happened. Here is a lovely excerpt.
Well, another Pasco County substitute teacher’s job is on the line, but this time it’s because of a magic trick.
The charge from the school district — Wizardry!
Substitute teacher Jim Piculas does a 30-second magic trick where a toothpick disappears then reappears.
But after performing it in front of a classroom at Rushe Middle School in Land ‘O Lakes, Piculas said his job did a disappearing act of its own.
“I get a call the middle of the day from the supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, ‘Jim, we have a huge issue. You can’t take any more assignments. You need to come in right away,’” he said.
When Piculas went in, he learned his little magic trick cast a spell that went much farther than he’d hoped.
“I said, ‘Well Pat, can you explain this to me?’ ‘You’ve been accused of wizardry,’ [he said]. Wizardry?” he asked.
You see, I love to visit the south. It’s warm, and there are some generally friendly people. People who hate everything you believe in, but at least they are nice about it. Now, I know that up here, we are surrounded by cold weather, democrats, taxes, and other demons. But at least here you can get a decent education, go to whatever church floats your boat, and, oh yeah, not loose your job for doing a magic trick.
Thought I would add this fun video I remember from Bill Maher.
