Checking In - Boats and Road Trip

So, yesterday was a pretty busy day. After another night of warm weather and cocktails, I was a little slow to get started. But pretty soon I was up, packed and on my way to the Palm Beach Boat Show.

1200 HP of outboards on a 35 foot boat is CRAZY! That's $120,000 right there, without the boat!

Worlds Largest and Fastest Surfboard

That's a lot of boats

This is a cool old Boat. I would love to own one. If I wanted a power boat that is.

The Air Force One of Mobile Toilets!

After walking around for a few hours, and enjoying the finest in presidential mobile restroom technology, I was off to pick up my rental car for the drive north to St. Augustine, FL.

Along the way, I made several interesting observations. Among them were.

  • Floridians drive like they all watch NASCAR and want to be part of the action. This shouldn’t surprise me, as everyone down here does watch and enjoy NASCAR. But I mean seriously, when my little Kia rental car has to scream along at 80mph to avoid being squished by traffic, thats some driving.
  • My Kia... it isn't cute, and I think I could pedal faster. I actually think I can hear the hamsters in their cage making the engine go.
  • Me driving.
  • Floridians really like to build Harley Davidson dealerships. I passed several on 95N until I just had to pull over and check out the worlds largest Harley Davidson Dealership.
  • Worlds Largest Harley Dealer
  • Perhaps the Worlds Largest Harley Logo
  • Along with motorcycles and NASCAR, Floridians clearly enjoy the latest in BBQ technology, as evidenced by an 18 wheeler modified to be a giant mobile grill. Now that’s cooking!
  • Worlds Largest BBQ Truck
  • Geek irony isn’t dead, as evidenced by this amusing highway exit sign. Can you tell me why this is ironic? If you can, and you can tell me why “There is no place like 127.0.0.1″ is funny, you are a geek and might be entitled to a t-shirt!
  • Ironic Geek Picture
  • Citrus groves are amazingly fragrant and floral. Driving and riding by them is quite pleasurable.
  • This state is serious flat. If global warming raises the sea level more than 10ft, then I am starting a mobile home to house boat conversion company. I should do quite well.
  • And above all, walking around on a hot spring day in Florida without wearing sunscreen is a very bad idea. Those who do this should be mocked. You may now of course begin to mock me.

Now that I have updated everyone, its back to work! Then I am off tonight for a little social drinking and meeting of the locals. Should be fun.
