Ah….. the delights of modern air travel, part deux

So, I returned to the airport yesterday, seeking a chance to still make it to my destination. I had gambled on the later flight being able to go, which, upon later consideration, was not wise. But I was heading to Vegas, and gambling seemed appropriate. I had been rebooked to leave on the 7:50pm direct flight to Las Vegas. Again, while traveling to the airport (this time via walking/train, the roads being really really bad) the flight was rescheduled. When I got off the plane, my 7:50pm flight was delayed till 10:00pm.

So began a lot of waiting, all the while knowing that if this flight didn’t some how make it out, there would be no trip for me. The reason? The gamble I had taken.

It had previously occured to me that the choice to allow them to rebook me on the direct flight meant that all the other cancelled people were likely filling up the flights for Saturday and even Sunday. It happened so quickly that there wasn’t a lot I could do about it. I was committed.

As the flight delay continued to extend in thirty minute increments, I knew that I wouldn’t be going. Finally, late after all the airport services had shut down, the flight was finally cancelled.

I trudged home through some really miserable rain/sleet/ice/snow/slush/cats/dogs mix. I got home and spent the night listening to water dripping through my leaky roof (as the pump was completely overwhelmed by the deluge of rain).

It is now Saturday morning. My sister, cousin and friends are all either in Vegas or on their way (my sister made her flight out today), and I am home, tired and sad.

At least dealing with the airline and expedia was stress free, and full refunds have been made available. Maybe I will go spoil myself on something cool (new video game or nice dinner) and forget these last few days ever happened.

Well……….you could always come out here and go to Dave’s high school’s basketball game with us. They are in the state championship game tonight at the DCU.

That really sucks!!!
