Mittopia

So. I was having a conversation with King of Clubs about how it would be neat to have some sort of site where we could bet on things like “Who will be the next Pi Kapp to get engaged?” or “Who will score highest on Super Monkey Ball next Super Bowl?”. We discussed it ever so briefly over beers (me) and girly drinks (King of Clubs) and then promptly forgot all about it.

Then I was reading this interesting article at The Escapist that covered Buzz Games, otherwise known as prediction markets. Now, I had read “The Wisdom of Crowds” and thought it was a fantastic book. Further reading pointed to some open source options out there that would let you run your own market. That lead to CrowdIQ and the Mittopia Guess Exchange (MGE).

The Mittopia Guess Exchange has been launched with the following stakes.

• New Members get 50,000M$ to buy Contracts on the Market
• The Market is Private, and is open only to Castle Brothers, Friends and Family.
• The Market will initially run for 6 months (unless the participants want to extend that).
• Market Created: 2/5/2007
• Market Close (Round 1): 8/5/2007
• Prize: Bottle of your favorite Alchohol ($50 or less)
• Other rules may follow as needed to control abuse.
• If we get enough interested people, we can up the stakes.

So, here is what I propose. This will be open to Castle Brothers, Friends and Family. Simply email and request to join (my email is mittop @ hotmail . com ) and you will have the opportunity to trade on the exchange. I will create a page on this site to track news and events pertaining to the exchange. You will need to visit the site and register (FREE) and then request to join the exchange (FREE). If we get enough interested folks, we can always talk about uping the stakes to make things interesting.

What we will need to do to make this work is get the exchange active and list some interesting contracts to bid on. Email me some prospective ones (I have some ideas). Lets have some fun, and may the best bidder win!
